Traineeships

A traineeship involves a student completing the qualification with both an employer and a registered training organisation. The trainee and their employer sign a contract to work together. The employer undertakes to train the trainee in all possible aspects of the qualification. The employer and trainee then engage a registered training organisation and negotiate a training plan to complete training for the units of the competency that the employer is unable to complete.

The Queensland School of Beauty Therapy offers theory lessons for trainees and any practical training that is required. All theory examinations and practical observations will be completed by the Queensland School of Beauty Therapy to ensure competence in the units of the qualification. Once the trainee is deemed competent in all units they will be issued with either SIB40110 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or SIB30110 Certificate III in Beauty Services.

Tuition

A traineeship can be undertaken on a full time (38 hours per week) or part time (at least 15 hours per week) basis. Trainees attend the Queensland School of Beauty for either one half day or one full day per month for their practical observations and assessments.

School Based Traineeships

Students can also start a traineeship while they are at school during years 11 or 12. Students still attend the Queensland School of Beauty for either one half day or one full day per month for their practical observations and assessments. For practical training the student may choose to work one or two days per week, on weekends, after school or during school holidays. Students will need to get their parent/guardian to sign their training contract with them and talk to their school about how work and training will fit in with their school timetable. Students that do not finish their traineeship while at school would have to convert to a full-time or part-time traineeship when they finish school.

Rural Traineeships

For trainees who are employed and live outside the Brisbane metropolitan area other arrangements can be made to accommodate the trainee depending on how far they have to travel. For example, the trainee may wish to come to Brisbane for one or two full days every two months, or even two or four full days every four months.

Please note this course is competency based therefore the duration may vary. For the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy it can take between 1 - 2 years full time or 2 - 4 years part time. The Certificate III in Beauty Services can take between 12 and 18 months full time or 18 - 24 months part time.
