Teaching Methods
The course is delivered using a combination of theoretical and practical activities for each unit of competency. Methods of delivery include a combination of class-room role-plays, theory lessons, and research activities as well as a simulated salon environment where students will gain valuable work experience within the industry.
Competency-based training places emphasis on the skills and knowledge a student has rather than how they attained the skills and knowledge. Competence is the ability to perform tasks and duties to the standard expected in employment. The course requirements are defined by the National Training Package Qualifications which are comprised of units of competency at a specific Australian Qualification Framework level (eg. Certificate II, III, IV, Diploma).
Assessment
Trainers/assessors conduct both the practical and theory components of the course and assess students against the required performance criteria for each unit of competency. Students receive continual feedback and partake in numerous practice lessons before a qualified Assessor will perform the final assessment.
At the completion of a course you will be awarded a Certificate or Diploma and a transcript of the units of competency completed. Students are expected to attend all classes and undertake all assessments during the course. Overseas students must maintain full time study requirements, equivalent to 20 contact hours per week. The Queensland School of Beauty Therapy maintains records of each student’s academic performance and attendance. The student’s academic progress is closely monitored by the Queensland School of Beauty Therapy for the duration of the course and reviewed on a regular basis.
Competency-based assessment is designed to ensure that each student has achieved all elements of the units to a competency standard. Assessment is based on gathering sufficient evidence which is valid, reliable and fair, to make a judgment against the required performance criteria.
